Museum

The Wincanton Museum is now at 5 High Street BA9 9JN.

The Museum will open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 10 am and 1 pm.  It is staffed by friendly volunteer stewards who aim to provide visitors with information regarding the local area and any local family connections.

Larger premises enable more from the collection to be on show.  We now have a second room where we plan to install rotating exhibitions (two or three a year) that will enable different aspects of local history to be highlighted.

The online resource of images, both of pictures and of artefacts, will continue to be expanded. If you have items you believe may be appropriate, please let us know on enq@wincantonhistorysociety.com.

We have come a long way since 1986 when, at the suggestion of Cecil (Puffy) Bowden, the original museum was created in the Quakers’ Grade II listed cottage further up the High Street, displaying the social history of Wincanton and the surrounding district.  The new location enables us to bring many aspects of local life through the centuries back into the public arena.

If you have some spare time, part-time volunteers are always welcome to help staff the museum during opening hours.  Please contact: enq@wincantonhistorysociety.com.
